"One generation plants the trees, another gets the shade" Chinese proverb ~

The future of Haiti lies in the hands of our children, our greatest strenght as a nation. As a country we have failed to give them the right opportunities, which is in abundance in other nations. The innovatory potential of the younger generation combine with their eagerness, strength and desire to contribute can be of exceptional value to the country. The best way to reinforce our future generations is through education, quality education which will make them become an active member of society and participate in the urgent changes and development that Haiti so desperately needs.

Open market - Beyond the commercial function, it’s a vast place of socialization
photo © patrice dougé All rights reserved |
Hardworking and willing to do whatever it takes to put food on the table for their children, vendors come to the marketplace to not only sell essential products to customers but to also engage in a friendly, social atmosphere which is supported among vendors. Solidarity and creating an important source of help seem to be more important than competition.

Ignoring the plight of the poor - hundreds of thousands of Haiti residents still live in inadequate sub-standard informal housing. The government's inability to bring urgently needed relief, the plundering of state coffers, the lack of planning, the incapacity to find finance/capital to jump start the nation's economy is looking growingly hopeless— It has been reported because of Haiti’s worsening economic situation, over 125,000 young
people left for Chile out of desparation in search of work over the past 18 months.

In Jérémie an ancient temple was destroyed in a fire that occurred in 1874. In 1877 it was decided to rebuild a parish church. In 1879, a credit of 30,000 gourdes passed by the House of Representatives allowed support its reconstruction. The works came to an end in 1901. The church was dedicated to St. Louis King of France (also known as Louis IX of France and Ludovico). On April 20, 1972, the Diocese of Jérémie was created with the division of the diocese of Les Cayes. That is when Jérémie church became a cathedral. wikipedia

Residents of Jérémie filled St Louis Church and lined up the streets to pay their respect to their beloved businessman and philanthropist Mr Jean Brunel Pierre." it's not so much the disappearance of the businessman who was Brunel Pierre which upsets the city, It is rather for many families, the loss of a philanthropist who believed above all the virtues of a good education that he had not been able to afford " Yvon Janvier / Le Nouvelliste - Rode Pierre, daughter of Jean Brunel.

I haven't set foot in the Grand'Anse in 3 years and exactly 4 months. Jeremie was severely hit by hurricane Matthew in 2016, the storm took away almost all the houses in sheet metal roofing. Only the concrete buildings resisted the repeated attacks of the hurricane. Jeremie has now partially recovered, but even before the storm, Jeremie and the Grand'Anse Department had an urgent need for a massive investment in infrastructure and most important to invest in human capital and long-term business development.
