In the midst of corruption, inequality, the Poor demand Accountability

Thousands took to the streets to protest  the embezzlement of billions from an oil assistance program sponsored by Venezuela and to demand a trial for officials involved in the alleged misuse. Schools have been closed since monday November 19th  as a precautionary measure, and embassies recommended people remain indoors.

On the 215th anniversary of the battle of Vertiere, thousands of demonstrators in Port-Au-Prince and across the country took to the streets to demand accountability for the misuse of funds from an oil assistance program and the resignation of President Jovenel Moise.

Fête Gede, or “Festival of the Dead,” is one of the most important celebrations in the Voudou religious calendar. On the 1st and second day of November, gédé celebrations take over The main cemetery in Port-Au-Prince, and elsewhere in Haiti. Voodoo practitioners come in droves to honor Baron Samedi and layout offerings such as candles, flowers, food, and rum mixed with hot pepper. It is a time when vodouizants celebrate the ancestral dead.
