I will always be coming back...

No other place I'd rather be on the whole island at this time, and I can still smell the aroma of eucalyptus.

Golden hour engulfs the mountains of Kenskoff, Haiti

Right before nightfall, the rain had stopped, and the sun peaked out of the clouds and turned magical, casting its golden warm light as far as my eyes could see. It slowly faded, didn't even last 15 minutes. The sun had gone back under the clouds, ending a fleeting moment of pure bliss.

At dawn, when the sun is about to rise, a beautiful spectacle enhances the skies, filled with renewed energy. The launch of a new day with a chance and opportunity to complete what was unfinished yesterday.

At nearly 6,000 feet of elevation, Kenscoff cool mountains air attracts residents of Port-Au-Prince and beyond. The village of Kenscoff has lost some of its enchanting, environmental characteristics, however, it's the place I still go to when in search of peace and tranquility.

Life is not easy in the Haitian countryside, it's enormous the wide variety of issues that challenge women as they go about their daily lives. These women carry an excessive heavy load, particularly economic issues and family concerns compounded by the offensive gender inequality and Haiti's current socio-economic disaster.

Open market - Beyond the commercial function, it’s a vast place of socialization

Hardworking and willing to do whatever it takes to put food on the table for their children, vendors come to the marketplace to not only sell essential products to customers but to also engage in a friendly, social atmosphere which is supported among vendors. Solidarity and creating an important source of help seem to be more important than competition.

"It’s good to keep moving forward and trying new things all the time. There are times when going back to an old photography location can be a great idea. Simon Bond" My first visit to kenscoff dates back to 1973, when a cousin took me to the mountains to attend a yearly summer hang out at L'Auberge —thus my obsession began. I have been photographing kenscoff on and off for over 15 years, lived there 3 times and I still haven't lost interest in making new images.

Tribute to our lives...
![]() |
| photo © patrice dougé All rights reserved |

Nice Eliazar

—BOYCOTT— Alternative Bar, Privately Owned, Not Open To The Public

Last August 2015 while I was in New York, I received a couple of photos of the new BOYCOTT location from my very good friend JEM. The last location in Duplan was a bit out of the way and not too cozy. The new location is near Carrefour Douet up in the mountains of Kenscoff and it is more accessible to the town open market, public transportation and stores. This past Saturday a new television show, DAKOUSTIK, which will feature musicians was video taped and a very well known performer named Bélot was interviewed by the show host Esmeralda Milcé. If you live in Haiti the Show will be aired sometime this month and can be viewed on Tele Pacific—which also broadcast in Miami, Florida.
